At a glance
Your saved computers stay on your device for network-control features. Optional analytics is your choice. Purchases, support and the services that keep Wolow working use the information explained below.
Who we are
Wolow is provided by Jack Baker, who is responsible for your personal information. This policy covers the Wolow app, website and Companion software.
For questions or privacy requests, email contact@wolow.site.
Your device information
Wolow saves your computer names, network addresses (including IP and MAC addresses), connection settings and device groups on your device. It uses them to find computers, check whether they are awake and send your commands. These details are not routinely uploaded to our servers for these features.
Widgets and Siri shortcuts can use the same saved information. Exported files and device backups may keep separate copies. If you choose cloud storage for an export or backup, that provider handles the copy under its own terms.
Companion shares device details with devices requesting discovery information over your network and receives control commands. It can keep local logs of device names, network addresses, commands and errors. On Linux, logs may also include the local user or session involved in a command. The current versions do not send these details to Google for analytics.
Optional app analytics
With your permission, we use Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics to understand app use and investigate crashes. They receive information about the features you use, your device, operating system, app version, crash details and identifiers used to recognise an app installation. Analytics may include an approximate location based on your internet connection.
This is off by default. You can use Wolow without enabling it and change your choice in Menu → Privacy Consent. Turning it off stops future collection through that setting, but does not delete information already sent.
This information can be personal data even without your name. Purchases, support and font downloads are separate from this choice.
App fonts
The app may download missing fonts from Google. Google receives your IP address and the technical information needed to deliver them, even if app analytics is off. Website fonts are served with the website itself.
Using the website
If you accept website analytics, Google Analytics measures visits and interactions, and Hotjar helps us understand clicks, scrolling and other activity. Hotjar can create heatmaps and session recordings, which show how a visit unfolds. These services receive browser, device and network information and use cookies or similar tools to recognise visits.
You can decline optional analytics. Our Cookie Policy explains browser storage and how to change your choice.
YouTube tutorials can connect to Google to load preview images before you play a video, and make further connections during interaction or playback. Instatus receives connection details when showing service updates. These services operate separately from the analytics choice.
Contacting support
We use your name, email address, message and any information you send to answer your enquiry and investigate problems. Zoho Desk handles website support tickets, and Amazon Web Services (AWS SES) sends confirmation emails.
The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to prevent automated abuse. Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser and device information. See Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy notice.
Please do not send passwords, full purchase codes or recovery secrets.
Keeping Wolow working
We use Cloudflare and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to run and deliver our website and online services. Cloudflare also helps protect them, and Sentry helps us investigate website and server errors. Depending on the service you use, these providers may receive your IP address, browser and device details, requested pages and request times.
Error reports may also include error messages, recent actions, approximate country, purchase-product details and information associated with a failed request. Security and error reporting operate separately from optional analytics.
Our reasons for using data
Where UK or EU data-protection law applies, we rely on:
- Your consent for optional app analytics, crash reports and website analytics.
- Our contract with you where information is needed to provide requested features, verify purchases or restore paid access.
- Legitimate interests in answering enquiries, investigating faults and protecting the service, where these needs are balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligations where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.
You do not have to enable optional analytics to use Wolow. Information needed to verify a purchase or answer a support request is separate.
Sharing and overseas processing
We share information with the service providers named above for the purposes described. They may also have responsibilities of their own under their privacy terms. We may disclose information when legally required or to deal with legal claims.
Providers operate internationally, so information may be processed outside your country, including outside the UK or European Economic Area. Contact contact@wolow.site for details of the countries and transfer safeguards relevant to your information, including how to obtain a copy of those safeguards.
How long we keep information
- Saved devices and preferences: until you remove them or clear the relevant app data. Exports and backups may remain separately.
- Purchase records: to support access, restoration and recovery, taking account of valid purchases, misuse, disputes and legal recordkeeping duties.
- Support messages: according to the time needed to resolve your request, follow up and deal with related issues or disputes.
- Analytics and error or security reports: according to the provider’s settings and the information needed to measure use, investigate faults or protect the service.
- Companion logs: Windows and macOS rotate local logs daily with a seven-file limit. Linux log retention follows your computer’s system logging settings. Copies you save or send us are separate.
Contact us about a particular record or to request deletion. The Cookie Policy explains how long browser storage lasts; deleting a cookie does not delete data already received.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the law and circumstances, you can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, restrict its use, receive a portable copy, or object to use based on legitimate interests.
You can withdraw consent at any time. This does not affect earlier lawful use or information still needed for another valid reason, such as maintaining your purchased access.
Email contact@wolow.site to make a request. We may need to check your identity or ask for information to find the relevant records. We cannot always identify a person from technical records alone.
You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data-protection authority, where applicable.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change and revise the date above. If a new use needs consent, we will ask before it starts. Older app versions may work differently.
